Mayor of Addis Ababa welcomes a delegation from China’s Chongqing city

Addis Ababa, January 5, 2024 (FBC) – Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, Ms. Adanech Abiebie welcomed and held a discussion with Chinese delegation headed by Mr. ChinZhao Shiqing, Vice Chairperson of Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress, on the issue of strengthening bilateral relations.

After her discussion with the Chinese delegation, Mayor Adanech Abiebie said via a social media post that both sides agreed to strengthen their bilateral relations and uplift relations from friendly cities to sister cities.

She went on and confirmed that both cities also agreed to sign a sisterhood agreement soon. They also reached an agreement to cooperate in the areas of economic cooperation, technology transfer, technical and vocational education, providing scholarships, culture, and tourism.

The Mayor also thanked the delegates for their visit to her city.

For his part, Vice Chairperson of Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress Mr. ChinZhao Shiqing stated that they are well aware of the Ethiopian capital is working closely with many Chinese cities.

Recall that last month, FBC reported that Mr. Li Mingquan, Deputy Director General of the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office, informed Ambassador Tafera Derbew of Ethiopia that the Chongqing City delegation is set to embark on a journey to the Ethiopian capital in early January 2024 with the overarching objective of enhancing bilateral relations.
