Mayor of Kasama City of Japan donates sports equipment to Ethiopian Athletics Federation

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2024 (FBC) – Mayor of Kasama City of Japan, Shinju Yamaguchi has donated various sports equipment to the Ethiopian Athletics Federation.

The city of Kasama has been organizing the Abebe Bikila Memorial Half Marathon for the last five years, and it is stated on the occasion that the donation was mobilized during the same race held in 2023.

President of Ethiopian Olympic Committee, Dr. Ashebir Woldegiorgis, President of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, Athlete Derartu Tulu, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Japan, Daba Debele and Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, Shibata Hironori have attended the handover ceremony.

Ambassador Daba stated on the occasion that Ethiopia and Japan have a century long bilateral relationship which is gaining momentum in various areas of cooperation. The Ambassador further expressed gratitude to Mayor of Kasama for the donation and appreciated city’s commitment to keep the memories of the legendry Ethiopian athlete alive.
