Media need to focus on leveraging peace, democracy, dev’t dividends: HPR Speaker

Addis Ababa, April 7, 2023 (FBC) – FDRE’s Speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives, Tagesse Chafo has said; by overcoming challenges media agencies need to focus on further leveraging peace, democracy and development dividends.

According to Ministry of foreign Affairs (MFA) an informative panel discussion organised by Ethiopian News Agency was held under the theme “Media and National Interest” at the Skylight Hotel today.

The panel discussion was graced by the Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, National Dialogue Chief Commissioner Prof. Mesfin Araya, MFA Spokesperson Ambassador Meles Alem, among other high-ranking government officials and heads of media houses, MFA indicated.

In his address to participants, Tagesse said, by overcoming challenges media agencies need to focus on further leveraging peace, democracy and development dividends, MFA has stated.

“We need to solve our divergences through dialogue and negotiations to strengthen our national unity and cohesion”, the Speaker noted.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of foreign Affairs Ambassador Meles Alem, presented a paper entitled “Media and National Interest” to participants.

He noted, in the dynamic world that we live in of the key tools of foreign policy implementation is the media, both old and new (digital).

He also urged representatives the various media agencies to strive towards the realization of peace, development and democracy in Ethiopia through their daily engagements.

Ambassador Meles said, the Government of Ethiopia at the moment is working diligently to secure Ethiopia’s national interest goals while making key strides in peace, development, democratisation and many more.
