Ministerial meeting on LAPSSET Corridor program held in Kenya

Addis Ababa, January 14, 2020 (FBC) -The First Ministerial meeting on LAPSSET Corridor Program kicked off in Mombasa, Kenya today.

The meeting was convened by the AU- High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, Raila Odinga, in the spirit of refocusing and revitalisation of the implementation of the LAPSSET Corridor.

On his opening remark, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Kenya, Meles Alem noted that LAPSSET Corridor Project (LCP) is a transformative and game changer regional mega infrastructure program.

Thus reaffirming Ethiopian commitment, Ambassador Meles urged the Governments of South Sudan, Kenya and several partners to solidify and strengthen their commitment to LAPPSSET project and accelerate the attainment of overall socio-economic transformation for the peoples of East Africa.

Raila Odinga, also noted that “Our nations will not be the same once the program takes off as a regional and multinational enterprise”.

LAPSSET Corridor Project consists of seven key infrastructure projects starting with a new 32 berth port at Lamu (Kenya) and interregional highways from Lamu to Isiolo, Isiolo to Juba (South Sudan), Isiolo to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and Lamu to Garsen (Kenya) Oil.

It also involves a crude oil pipeline and interregional standard gauge railway, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Kenya.
