Ministry briefs top military officers about GERD

Addis Ababa, May 21, 2020 (FBC) –Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Dr. Seleshi Bekele, today briefed senior officers of the National Defense Force on the status of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

In the presentation held at the Ethiopian Defense Command and Staff College, the Minister thoroughly elaborated the filling and operation plans of the dam.

He further provided a briefing on the status of the GERD negotiations, progress of the dam construction, its benefits to Sudan, Egypt and the region, and the way forward.

The event was attended by Defense Force Chief of General Staff, General Adem Mohammed and Deputy Chief of Staff, General Birhanu Julla, among others.

GERD, which is being built in Benishangul-Gumuz regional state, has now reached more than 73%. Ethiopia plans to begin filling the dam next July.
