Ministry consults with owners, operators of manufacturing industries in Tigray

Addis Ababa, December 25, 2020 (FBC) – Ministry of Trade and Industry has consulted with owners and operators of manufacturing industries in Tigray on ways how to restore operation in the region.

On the discussion, Trade and Industry State Minister, Yohannes Dinkayehu underlined that a wide range of activities have been undertaken by the government to rehabilitate affected people and restore infrastructural facilities in the region.

The discussion is needed to restore operation of industries which has been obstructed due to the law enforcement operation in the region to previous status, it is indicated on the occasion.

A special taskforce tasked to address bottlenecks related to foreign currency and power supply issues has been established, it is stated in the consultative meeting.

It is stated on the occasion that industries engaged in garment and textile and metal works and micro and small scale manufacturing enterprises have been heavily impacted by the law enforcement operation process.

Owners and leadership of the industries have also expressed concerns related to some services they need to be given due attention. The taskforce is said to have identified major concerns to be addressed soon.

The government should set up an effective follow up and monitoring system to ensure that industrial peace maintained in the area.

Owners and operators are urged to devise plan that would help to return to business with full capacity.
