Huawei Ethiopia inaugurates solar-powered portable coding, robotics lab

Addis Ababa, November 16, 2022 (FBC) – Huawei Ethiopia in collaboration with iCog Anyone Can Code, a local firm, inaugurated a solar-powered portable coding and robotics lab called ‘DigiTrack Ethiopia’.

It is stated that the digital laboratory consists of robotic science training center.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Berhanu Nega, during the inauguration ceremony, said that the introduction of a portable computer programming and robotics science laboratory in Ethiopia will provide ample opportunity to produce a technologically advanced generation.

He said the inaugurated portable computer programming and robotic science technology will enable students across the country to acquire technological knowledge and skills from an early age.

The ICT and Digital Education Sector Executive at the Ministry of Education, Zelalem Asefa, said that the laboratory will help Ethiopia to solve the human resource problem in the computer programming and software sector and to produce entrepreneurs in the sector.

Bethlehem Dessie, the founder and chief executive officer of iCog Anyone Can Code, said that ‘DigiTrack Ethiopia’ will provide training in 9 regional cities for 7 years, and in the process, it has a goal to make it accessible to all regions by expanding portable digital labs.

ENA reports that it is planned to make access to more than 3,500 primary school students in the first round alone.

According to Huawei’s North Africa Vice President Leo Li, more than $75,000 has been spent on the recently inaugurated ‘DigiTrack Ethiopia’ to make it accessible to students across the country in terms of encoding and robotics technology.
