MoH says multiple regular vaccinations underway in Tigray region

Addis Ababa, February 3, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Health – Ethiopia (MoH) confirmed that 12 types of regular vaccinations are being carried out in Tigray region, following the return of peace in the area.

The Head of Maternal and Child Vaccination Desk at the Ministry, Melkamu Ayalew, said that since the peace agreement, efforts have been made to deliver necessary vaccines to children in the Tigray region.

For this regard, he stated that the Ministry’s team of experts sent to Tigray region is working in cooperation with other local and international partners.

He indicated that the Ministry is committed to work in coordination with UNICEF, the World Health Organization and other stakeholders to ensure that regular vaccinations are provided in all areas of the region.

The necessary preparation is also being completed to embark the ongoing nationwide measles vaccination campaign in Tigray region, Ayalew said.

The Official explained that, in particular, resource mobilization, awareness creation, training of experts, medicine storage centers, refrigerators and other preparations are being carried out.

He also mentioned that the resumption of the regular public transportation services to Tigray region will help accelerate transportation and distribution of various vaccines into the region.
