Momentum of Ethiopia’s efforts on accession into WTO wins acclaim

Addis Ababa, December 21, 2023 (FBC) – In a significant stride towards Ethiopia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the State Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chief Negotiator of Ethiopia’s Accession to WTO, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, engaged in discussions with the Deputy Director General of the WTO, Ambassador Xiangchen Zhang, at the WTO HQ in Geneva.

Ambassador Mesganu reiterated Ethiopia’s steadfast commitment to finalizing its accession to the WTO at the earliest possible time, Ethiopian Permanent Mission in Geneva disclosed.

He emphasized the country’s dedication to navigating the complexities of the accession process and highlighted the ongoing reforms integral to this commitment.

For his part, the WTO Deputy Director General, Ambassador Xiangchen Zhang, expressed satisfaction with the momentum of Ethiopia’s accession efforts and commended the country’s commitment to the rigorous process.

The WTO Deputy acknowledged Ethiopia as a priority country within the organization, recognizing the complexities involved in the accession process.
