Consultation held on National Youth Citizenship Service draft bill

Addis Ababa, August 26, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs of Ethiopia (MoWSA) and the FDRE House of Federation held a joint consultation on the National Youth Citizenship Service draft bill.

During the event, Deputy Speaker of the House of Federation, Zehara Humed, said that the draft bill is pivotal in “creating an economic community”.

The Upper House’s standing committee organized this consultation because creating a common understanding between the regional states and city administrations in Ethiopia is considered as a priority agenda, she underscored.

The Deputy Speaker urged all concerned stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of the bill.

For her part, the Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ergogie Tesfaye (PhD), said that the preparation of the draft bill will enable the youth to fulfill their national duties by contributing to development, peace and security.

The Minister called on the government to make the necessary preparations and create awareness and discussion platforms and implement the service by establishing coordination procedures with the relevant stakeholders.

It is stated that the National Youth Citizenship Service Proclamation contains five main parts.

Following the issuance of the regulations to oversee the implementation of the Proclamation, the Ministry may prepare relevant guidelines, it was indicated.

In the consultation, various inputs and opinions were collected from participants of the event, it was learned.
