Muslims urged to spend Ramadan with prayers, compassion

Addis Ababa, April 21, 2020 (FBC) -The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (EIASC) has urged the Muslim community to spend the grand Ramadan fasting month with prayers and good deeds.

In his statement in connection with the upcoming Ramadan, President of EIASC, Grand Mufti Hajji Omar Idris said this year’s fasting season appears to be unique for mosques are closed due to COVID 19 pandemic.

He urged Muslims to pray and practice spiritual activities at home in order to protect themselves and the people at large from the pandemic.

He said the fasting season must be a time when Muslims should pray to Allah asking him to save the world from the coronavirus pandemic.

He called up on members of the Muslim community to hold religious and spiritual services at home as per the decisions passed by the Ulema Council and the government.

The first day of fasting for the holy month of Ramadan will fall on the evening of upcoming Wednesday or Thursday based of the sighting of the new moon

The Grand Mufti called up on Muslims to avoid congregational prayer in some parts of the country to stem the spread of the corona virus.
