Nationwide pastoral nutrition, food security project launched to build climate resilient capacity

Addis Ababa, November 29, 2022 (FBC) – A pastoral food and food system security project was unveiled to deal with challenges stem from climate change in the pastoral area.

The launch of the program was held in Jigjiga city, Somali region.

Minister of Agriculture, Oumer Hussein, Chief administrator of Somali Region, Mustafe M. Omer, Deputy Director General of East Africa Regional Development and Business Supply of African Development Bank, Dr. Abdul Kamara, other federal and regional senior government officials attended the unveiling event.

The project is expected to improve the living conditions of women, youth and the general population by building resilience to the food security problem in the Horn of Africa.

It has been mentioned that the project will not only increase the resilience to climate change, but also contribute to ensure lasting peace in the pastoral area.

Moreover, the project is also developed to improve the lives of the pastoralists and ensure peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

Through its implementation, the project will play a greater role in enhancing the productivity of pastoralists in East Africa.

According to the report by Ethiopian News Agency, the project will last for six years and will be implemented in various districts of Somali, Afar, Oromia, South West Ethiopia and the Southern Peoples’ regions.

The Ethiopian government and the African Development Bank have provided financial support for the implementation of the project, the report added.
