Over 600,000 ha of land covered with two rounds of summer irrigation

Addis Ababa, May 9, 2022 (FBC) – More than 600,000 ha of land has been covered with two rounds of summer time irrigated farming, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

In an exclusive interview with FBC, the Agriculture Minister Oumer Hussein said close to 24 million quintals of crop production is expected to be harvested from the summer irrigation farming.

He said activities are underway to involve private investors who can cultivate diversified crops on large scale farm lands thereby enhancing the supply of agricultural products.

The Minister further announced a plan to carry out summer wheat production on 1 million hectare of land next year to realize the import substitution.
