PM Abiy stresses need to accelerate wheat productivity as supply impacted by global events

Addis Ababa, March 20, 2022 (FBC) – A delegation of high level government officials led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited irrigated wheat farming in Dembiya district, Amhara region.

Prime Minister Abiy appreciated the crop productivity in the region, extending gratitude to higher education institutions, researchers and farmers for their contribution to irrigation development.

Our review today of productivity in the Amhara region is promising and while our farming journey may be tedious, our ambition is to cultivate in the millions.

It is indicated on the occasion that the Amhara region is expected to harvest 2 million quintals of wheat product from the ongoing summer time irrigation farming.

Agriculture has long been the economic foundation of the country. With wheat supply being impacted by global events, it is even more imperative that we accelerate our productivity for self sufficiency.
