PM expresses commitment of government to continue bringing perpetrators to justice, maintain law and order

Addis Ababa, July 17, 2020 (FBC) – In a statement issued today, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed stated that the government will keep bringing perpetrators to justice and maintaining law and order.

The premier has extended his deepest condolences to families who lost lives of their beloved ones amid unrest in the aftermath of the assassination of the prominent singer Hachalu Hundessa.

The statement from the Prime Minister Office indicates that Public and private properties worth millions of birr have been annihilated following the chaos triggered by the murder of the artist, Hachalu Hundessa.

The premier expressed readiness of the government to rehabilitate the victims and bring criminals to justice jointly with the public so as to maintain law and order.

The premier stressed the need for facing up to perpetrators rather than fleeing circumstances they trigger so as to effectively tackle their wrongdoings.

The government is committed more than ever before to investigate who instigate the conflicts and enforce rule of law so as to ensure law and order.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy urged parents, elders of the community, religious and traditional leaders to play their share in protecting the nation from chaotic situations it is faced with now.

Every citizen has to discharge his/her responsibility to bring criminals to justice based on concrete evidences.

He also called up on the general public to stand beside people who have been victimized by the disorder occurred in several parts of the country, and reinstate them morally and economically to their previous condition.

Dr. Abiy said it was difficult to control the dire situation without sacrifices of members of the police and security forces pledging to offer proper respect for families of the victims.

The government will exert efforts to recover innocent victims and code enforcement bodies, and bring plotters and participants of the intrigue at all levels to justice after concluding investigations, the premier said.

The government will continue to deploy of security forces involving active participation of the public, according the premier.

“We have well identified those who instigated the chaos and disrupted their networks,” the premier said.

Moreover, the Premier underlined that the government will give prior attention for urban farming besides strengthening the rural agricultural works in a bid to realize food security and substitute imports with domestic production.

“The manufacturing industry has to work day and night to produce products that help withstand impacts of COVID 19. And we continue taking preventive measures, diagnostic and treatment activities to effectively control the drastic spead of the virus.” Dr. Abiy underlined.

The filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Reservoir will be carried out as per the time scheduled, and national planting of 4 billion trees will be undertaken ahead of the timetabled adhering to the precautions set to curve the pandemic, the Premier underscored.
