PM says 34 million Ethiopians are accessing mobile banking
Addis Ababa, July 6, 2023 (FBC) – Explaining about the reforms being carried out in the financial sector during the 28th regular session of the House of People Representatives, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said the government has undertaken a wide range of activities over the past years to improve the sector.
Following the financial reforms, the Prime Minister said, the government has commenced digital banking, interest free banking and introduces capital market, among others.
Within the last two years along, more than 3 million Ethiopians have managed to get access to loans employing the digital banking system, the Prime Minister said. Currently, 34 million Ethiopians are accessing mobile banking, he added.
Saying that the Capital Market will be fully operationalized from next year, the Prime Minister outlined that this market will particularly enable the Ethiopian diaspora to directory participate in the major economic activities in the country.
