Police arrest a foreign for possession of counterfeit dollars

Addis Ababa, October 12, 2022 (FBC) – Addis Ababa Police arrested a Cameroonian national for possession of over 290,000 counterfeit USD.

The suspect struck up an acquaintance and swapped a telephone number with a resident of Addis Ababa to arrange further collaboration, according to Police.

He also deceived the individual he introduced with into a thinking that his father had been working for the UN and collected 5 million USD tailored to relief works before he died.

The suspect also peddled a false narrative as if he brought in 2 million USD out of the money collected by his father to Addis Ababa with help of diplomats for investment purposes.

Suspect asked the other to contribute 1 million 480 thousand USD for the purported joint investment. Finally, the the individual deceived by the suspect informed Police on the issue.

After a close follow up, the Police apprehended the suspect with 297,7000 fake USD and 3,600 ETB along with other equipment and chemicals he was allegedly using for the counterfeit, it is learned. Police announced that it is holding further investigations on the suspect.
