Police arrest over 4,700 suspects
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2020 (FBC) – Police have detained more than 4,700 individuals suspected of having links with the violence occurred in some parts of Oromia following the killing of artist Hachalu Hundessa.
Nigusu Tilahun, Head of Press Secretariat at the Prime Minister office, said the detainees were suspected of planning and inciting violence that resulted in the loss of many lives and properties.
The government is committed to ensure the rule of law and alleviate the recurrence of such kinds of damages, he added.
He also urged the public not to be deceived by the fake information being circulated and to strengthen their cooperation with the government in the fight against those responsible for the recent violence.
Artist Hachalu Hundessa was shot dead in Addis Ababa last week around a place called Gelan condominium.
