President Trump’s remark on GERD unacceptable, says Islamic Supreme Council

Addis Ababa, October 27, 2020 (FBC) -President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Grand Mufti Haji Omar Idris, has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s comment about GERD.

Haji Omar made the remark while briefing journalists told about the 1495th Mawlid festival, birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, which will be celebrated on Thursday.

“President Trump’s remark regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is unacceptable,” he said.

Haji Omar further urged Muslim faithful to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19 pandemic by avoiding handshaking and keeping their distance during the festival.

He also called on Ethiopians to stand united for peace and development as well as to thwart any attacks from enemies.

According to Haji Omar, the unity of citizens is crucial to prevent locust invasion, damages caused by the swarms and deal with other challenges in the country.
