Regional police cooperation brings achievements in curbing transitional crimes: Deputy Police Chief

Addis Ababa, March 7, 2024 (FBC) – An Ethiopian delegation led by Deputy Commissioner General of the Federal Police, Zelalem Mengiste is participating in the 48th Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Technical Committee Assembly is taking place in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The assembly is taking place under the theme “Leveraging regional policing capacities to promote law enforcement cooperation in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime”

In his remarks at the meeting, Deputy Commissioner General Zelalem stated that the regional police cooperation among member countries has resulted in remarkable achievements in curbing transitional crimes.

Progress has been made in bringing perpetrators to justice, especially in terrorism, human trafficking, arms, and drug smuggling, as well as money laundering, the Deputy Commissioner General said.

Deputy Commissioner General has passed chairmanship of the Technical Committee to Commander of Investigation Department of the Burundian National Police, Maj.-Gen Roger Nidikuma.

The Deputy Commissioner General has also held discussions with a Chinese delegation which is participating in the meeting on the sidelines of the assembly.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner General and the Chinese delegation has discussed ways how to bolster cooperation between China and EAPCCO.
