Relative peace materializing in the north thanks to the Pretoria accord: Minister

Addis Ababa, November 30, 2022 (FBC) – The FDRE Minister of Government Communication Services, Legese Tulu, stated that relative peace is materializing in the northern part of Ethiopia thanks to the Pretoria peace accord.

The Minister said, “There is nothing in the world that is as gratifying as peace, and there is nothing greater that gives happiness and stability than peace to mankind.”

He added that some say that they have found peace when they are not sure what will happen even in their day-to-day lives.

Legese said that those kinds of people wish such “inner peace” to survive not only for themselves but also for others.

“A person is said to have found peace when his mind finds stability and contentment,” he said, emphasizing how important peace is.

The Minister, who pointed out how much inner peace calms the mind, said that the same is true of national peace, comparing the two.

When the peace of the country is ensured, the citizens will be relieved when they see and consider the peace and security around them, Legese stated.

“Today’s St. Mary annual holiday celebration in Aksum Zion, Kuiha Mekele and other areas is a testimony of the current developing of relative peace,” he said.

The GCS Minister said that although the festive atmosphere in these areas was not similar to the old times, but the one that had started was a great source of hope and happiness for a lasting peace.

“It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect and take care of the peace that has come into our hands,” he emphasized.

“The peace that the citizens hold fast to will last long. Even anti-peace forces will not dissolve it easily,” Legese mentioned.

He also pointed out that efforts are being made to solve the security issues in other areas, especially in some areas of Western Oromia, in a shorter time.

The Minister indicated that the Ethiopian government is working with determination to ensure peace and stability in any part of the country.

He urged peace loving citizens to make this effort sustainable by supporting and strengthening engagements as before.

The Minister said that the damage and destruction that is happening in these areas is the pain and damage of the rest of Ethiopians.

He said that instead of labeling such conflicts as ethnical conflict, everyone should stand together for sustainable and positive peace.

The guarantee of all parties is to resolve the needs and demands of the people through peaceful dialogue, he said.

Apart from peaceful dialogue, taking violence is only results loss.

He confirmed that the government’s door to peace is always open to everyone who wishes for a peaceful situation.
