Secretary Anthony Blinken visits historical U.S. consulate in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, March 15, 2023 (FBC) – The US  Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken has visited the first and the historical U.S. consulate in Addis Ababa locally named “American Gibbi” as part of his official trip to Ethiopia.

The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa in partnership with the World Monuments Fund has renovated the American Gibbi and inagurated the refurbishment project on 24 February in attendance of high government officials and members of the diplomatic community.

Historical accounts indicate that the old building which was previously owned by one of prominent Ethiopian officials, Fitawrari Habtegiworgis Dinegde served as the U.S. consulate of the mid-1920s.
