Somali leaders ‘make progress’ in election talks

Addis Ababa, May 26, 2021 (FBC) – The Somali government has said that federal and regional leaders have made progress on election talks and are set to sign an agreement on Thursday.

Government spokesman Mohamed Moalimu said the outcome of the meeting was being finalised for the signing ceremony.

The four-day talks were chaired by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

“Progress has been made every day of the conference so far,” Moalimu said.

The leaders have been meeting in the capital, Mogadishu, to resolve a protracted dispute over the electoral process, which led to violence last month, according to BBC.
