Standing Committee pledges commitment to enhance Ethiopia-Cuba parliamentary relations

Addis Ababa, April 19, 2023 (FBC) – Dima Nogo (PhD), Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs of the House of Representatives of the People’s Republic of Ethiopia, and Cuban Ambassador George F. Lefebvre discussed that they will work to further strengthen bilateral ties between Ethiopia and Russia.

The Chairman stated that Ethiopia and Cuba have a longstanding friendly relationship, adding that it was Cuba who stood shoulder to shoulder with Ethiopia when Somalia under the leadership of Siad Barre invaded the country. Cuban soldiers fought alongside Ethiopians in the fight against the invaders and significantly contributed to the victory, he added.

The Chairman added that Cuba was on Ethiopia’s side in the international arena regarding the recent conflict in the northern part of Ethiopia.

Ambassador of Cuba George F. Lefebvre reminded that the time tested relationship between the two countries is expressed in many ways.

He said that now is the time to strengthen the parliamentary and people-to-people relations in order to take this good relationship to a higher level.

Ambassador George said that the two countries should work together to strengthen their longstanding and historical relationship.

The ambassador recalled that Cuba was supporting Ethiopia in education, health and military services.

The Chairman further pledged commitment to work together with the Cuban side in multifaceted areas of cooperation to enhance the longstanding ties between the two nations.
