TPLF holds people of Tigray a hostage, uses aid as a political tool: Escaped Physician

Addis Ababa, May 3, 2022 (FBC) – Dr. Aregawi Hagos was a physician at Ayder Hospital in Mekelle, Tigray. A month before, he fled to the neighboring Amhara Region and then to Addis Ababa opposing the atrocities being committed by the TPLF Group in Tigray.

Talking to EBC, Dr. Aregawi Hagos said TPLF is using the food aid and other humanitarian supplies including medicines for its political interest. Families will not get any food or other supplies unless they overtly show allegiance to the group, he underscored.

Dr. Aregawi noted “They have to do whatever they are asked to do so in order to the aid,”, adding that only the ring leaders and their families are benefiting from what is going on in the region, he underlined.

Saying that TPLF is using the people of Tigray as a hostage, Dr. Aregawi revealed that the TPLF Junta is forcing the people in the region dependent on the aid which is under its control. The Group is coercing the people to perceive it as the only savior for them.

Besides, it is peddling fake propaganda purporting that the people of Amhara and Afar are enemies of Tigrayans.

“TPLF has continued fabricating imaginary enemies to the people who are now under its full aggression,” he said.

“It is making the youth hapless in all aspects to force them prefer the war to insecurities.”

“Youths organized by the outlawed group looted medicines and medical supplies from health institutions and private pharmacies in Amhara and Afar regions. But, the youth who participated in the robbery don’t know the whereabouts of these stolen properties,” Dr. Aregawi added.

“I could have continued my specialty education if I stayed there. But, preferred this way to liberate my people from the false propaganda and hostile situation they are facing. I will continue the struggle. And there are many youths in Mekelle and other parts of the region who are willing to follow my examples,”

There are no any media outlets except their propaganda machine in the guise of regional news houses. There is a serious shortage of water in the region. Only electricity is fully available in the region, Dr. Aregawi indicated.

My families will face intimidation and even physical abuses from the TPLF because I am here, he said.

Dr. Aregawi called on Ethiopians at home, members of the Diaspora and other stakeholders to facilitate safe conditions for IDPs fleeing Tigray region due to the TPLF aggression.

Called on Tigriyans to oppose the war mongering by the TPLF and contribute their part for peaceful and sovereign Ethiopia.
