TPLF’s renewed attack in Afar region block humanitarian operation into Tigray: GCS

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2022 (FBC) – In a press briefing, Minister of Government Communications Service, Legesse Tulu (PhD) state that the terrorist TPLF’s renewed attack in Afar Region has blocked the humanitarian operation into Tigray.

The WPF humanitarian trucks that were heading to Tigray were forced return halfway to Mekelle due to the fresh attack being committed by the terrorist Group in Ab’ala area of the Afar Region.

TPLF is using hunger as a weapon of war in Tigray for the sake of political gain, the Minister underlined.

On the other part, the Minister said that the upcoming AU Summit to be held in Addis Ababa has overturned the unwarranted speculations and disinformation by some elements who were perpetrating to tarnish the image of the country.

The holding of the Summit clearly shows that Ethiopia has become victorious against all odds and continued its journey towards better future, he underscored.

Progressive results have been being achieved in rebuilding war affected areas and resuming government administrative services.

Out of 1.4 million people displaced due to the conflict, 1.2 have been returned to their homes, the Minister said.

He stressed need to concerted efforts to expedite the rehabilitation efforts in war affected areas.

The Government is working hard to respond to humanitarian needs in drought affected areas, he said, adding that assistance of partners is needed for the situation cannot be addressed with government’s endeavors alone.

He noted that the Council of Ministers has decided to shorten implementation period of the State of Emergency ahead of its expiration taking various issues into consideration.

Improvements in diplomatic efforts and security issues, impacts of the State of Emergency in the overall social, economic and political areas are among the issues that have been taken into consideration to remove the decree, Legesse added.
