Two Chinese companies to purchase Ethiopian coffee beans

Addis Ababa, January 6, 2021 (FBC) -Luckin Coffee (China) Co. Ltd., and Louis Dreyfus Company (China) Ltd., have signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement to purchase Ethiopian coffee beans.

The agreement signing ceremony took place yesterday at the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing in the presence of Teshome Toga, Ambassador of Ethiopia to China.

In his remark, Ambassador Teshome said 2020 marked the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and China – which will continue throughout 2021.

He welcomed the signing of the agreement as part of the celebration of the golden jubilee.

The ambassador also encouraged the companies to buy more Ethiopian coffee varieties, construct coffee processing factories in Ethiopia and work on value-addition to further benefit Ethiopian coffee farmers.

Dr. Jinyi Guo, Chairman and CEO of Luckin Coffee and Jerrity Chen, Regional CEO of Louis Dreyfus Company for North Asia, noted that they will continue to provide Ethiopian coffee to Chinese consumers with a high-quality and specialized product to satisfy the needs of diverse consumer base.

According to the agreement, Luckin Coffee (China) Co., Ltd. will purchase up to 2000 tons of premium coffee beans from Ethiopia every year from 2021 to 2023 and it aims to enable more Chinese consumers to taste high-quality premium Ethiopian coffee with affordable price and in a more convenient way.
