UNESCO new representative in Ethiopia presents her copy of credentials

Addis Ababa, September 08, 2022 (FBC) – Mrs. Rita Bissoonauth, newly appointed UNESCO (United Nation Education, Science and Culture Organization) Representative to Ethiopia, has presented her copy of credentials to the Director of Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Mr. Demeke Atnafu.

Continuing his welcoming remarks, Mr. Demeke briefed the new UNESCO Representative about the current state of affairs in Ethiopia.

He called on the international community to condemn the unwarranted new wave of attacks launched by the TPLF, further reaffirming the Ethiopian government’s commitment to the AU-led peace process.

He explained that the Government of Ethiopia is building the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) for the sake of development, not to cause significant harm to downstream countries and to respect the international principle of an equitable and reasonable share of resources.

The two parties highlighted that existing cooperation between Ethiopia and UNESCO in fostering peace in the minds of men and women should be further strengthened.
