Addis Ababa, Shanghai agree to work closely in various realms

Addis Ababa, December 19, 2023 (FBC) – Addis Ababa city administration and Shanghai city have reached an agreement to work closely in various areas, the Mayor Office of Addis Ababa confirmed today.

The commitment of the two cities was revealed during a discussion between Mayor of Addis Ababa city Ms. Adanech Abiebie and Mayor of Shanghai city Gong Zheng in Shanghai.

It is known that the Addis Ababa city administration delegation, headed by Ms. Adanech Abiebie has traveled to Shanghai, China’s prominent commercial center, this week for an official working visit.

During the discussion between the delegates of Addis Ababa and Shanghai, Mayor Adanech acknowledged the significant advancement of diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people relations between Ethiopia and China into an ‘all-weather strategic partnership’.

According to her, the elevation of these relations has created a more favorable environment for deepening the ties between Addis Ababa and Shanghai.

This enhanced partnership provides a conducive platform for the two cities to collaborate closely on common issues of mutual interest, she noted.

Ms. Adanech affirmed that the Addis Ababa city administration will work closely with Shanghai city, which is known for its remarkable development in the financial, commercial, technological and manufacturing sectors, to work on common issues and to strengthen people-to-people relations.

Mayor Gong Zheng acknowledged the significance of establishing a close working relationship with Addis Ababa, which serves as the economic, trade, and investment hub of Ethiopia and acts as a gateway to Africa.

He recognized that Addis Ababa is currently experiencing rapid development and emphasized that collaborating closely with the city would result in mutual benefits for both Shanghai and Addis Ababa.

Following their discussion, both mayors reached an agreement on ways to work together on trade, tourism, investment, technology, capacity building, strengthening people-to-people relations and other issues, it is stated.
