Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit 2024 underway in Nairobi

Addis Ababa, May 7, 2024 (FBC) – Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health (AFSH) Summit 2024 kicked off today in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

Earlier today, stakeholders kick off a 3-day discussion on Africa’s recent decline in soil quality of farmland and explore scalable models from best practices that demonstrate the value of supporting the fertilizer value chain to facilitate access to quality fertilizers tailored to soil and crop-specific needs and good agricultural practices by farmers.

Scheduled to run from May 7 to 9 2024, the AFSH Summit will be convened at the level of Heads of State and Government. It will also include active engagement from other policy makers, scientists, representatives of farmer organizations, private-sector, development agencies, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, scholars, and the media.

It is indicated that the stakeholder deliberations will inform a 10-year Action Plan detailing new policies, investments, and innovative financing mechanism to enable farmers re-build soil health for increased yield and profitability.

The objective of the Summit is to bring together all relevant stakeholders to highlight the crucial role of fertilizer and soil health in stimulating sustainable pro-poor productivity growth in African agriculture and to agree on an African Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan, as well as the Soils Initiative for Africa
