Ambassador Melaku presents his letter of Credence to the President of Senegal

Addis Ababa, June 8, 2021 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Melaku Legesse presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall.

Following the ceremony of presentation of credentials, the Ambassador updated the President on current issues in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, the Ethiopia-Sudan border issue, the upcoming national election, and the Ethiopian government’s perspectives on regional issues including the negotiations on the GERD.

President Macky Sall, on his part, mentioned the importance of solving the issues of GERD through dialogue and negotiation.

The President also suggested Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt use the experience of the Senegal River Basin Development Organization (OMVS) which includes Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal, and establishing cooperative management that serves the common goals of the riparian countries.

Ambassador Melaku Legesse further expressed to the President, his readiness to work hard in further deepening the historic relations between the two sisterly countries.

Ethio-Senegal Diplomatic Relations began the day after Senegal’s independence, and the two countries have opened embassies in each other’s countries for more than half a century.
