Arrested TPLF Clique leaders say their rights are being protected well

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2021 (FBC) – Board of Inquiry into the implementation of the state of emergency in the Tigray Region has met with senior TPLF Clique leaders under custody. The suspects said their human rights were being protected.

The Board of Inquiry conducted the investigation in person at the suspects’ imprisonment center in Addis Ababa. The suspects explained to the Board of Inquiry that they all are being treated in an unprecedented manner.

The suspects expressed their gratitude to the Federal Police members and leaders for being reunited with their families, including proper food, sanitation, clothing and bedding services.

On the other hand, some suspects told members of the Board of Inquiry that their families were in trouble because of their bank account and monthly salaries are frozen.

Some of the suspects said that they did not appear in court as soon as possible under the criminal law and asked the Board of Inquiry to investigate and resolve the case.

Members of the Board of Inquiry, for their part, told the Federal Police Commission’s Criminal Investigation Commission that the ongoing treatment of the suspects is commendable.

Chairman of the Board of Inquiry, Honorable Lema Tesema, said the board will try to resolve their grievances with the relevant body.

Regarding the court date, however, the board discussed the matter with the commission’s criminal investigation officers and called for corrective action.
