Building Ethiopia’s technological capacity basis for Telecom liberalization: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, September 7, 2020 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has presided over a discussion platform that focused on the telecom sector reform activities underway in the country.

Addressing the participants, the Premier said that enhancing technology based services and building Ethiopia’s capacity in that regard is a critical basis for the telecom sector liberalisation as well as partial privations endeavors.

The Premier remarked that the government is taking an approach of principles pragmatism centered on national interest.

As a follow up to the ongoing process, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed gave further direction for follow up consultations to be undertaken with various stakeholders.

Over the past two years, the telecom sector has experienced reforms focused on key policy objectives including enhancement of Ethiopia’s digital development, increament of service access, realization of international standard telecom industry focused on capacity and quality and generation of weath form the sector, it is indicated on the discussion.

Participants in the discussion included academics, political parties, private sector representatives and key government stakeholders.
