Dedication of youth key to take Ethiopia forward: PM

Addis Ababa, March 6, 2021 (FBC) –The national voluntary community service program (NVCSP) today graduated its first batch 10,000 youth volunteers.

NVCSP is a program designed by the Ministry of Peace to train and deploy young Ethiopian volunteers to community services to foster social cohesion and peacebuilding.

The event, which took place at the friendship park, was attended by government officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Minister of Peace, Muferihat Kamil.

The Prime Minister congratulated the graduates and appreciated them for choosing to be a hope and pillars for their country through the act of service.

He said said Ethiopia could be a model for others if the current generation develops the culture of volunteerism.

He further said “If we nurture the value of service in youth, we can reach our potential of transformation.”

“The youth graduating today who have committed to voluntary service are a demonstration of our national aspirations to work together and rise into prosperity.”

“While all eyes are on Ethiopia from every direction, no one can take away our dreams of developing and rising to our rightful place as a nation. This takes the dedication of our youth to take Ethiopia forward.”

The Prime Minister also called upon the graduates to give their time to better serve the community.

Drawn from 19 universities, today’s graduates received training in voluntary community service for the past 45 consecutive days.

They will be deployed in various parts of the country to provide social services for the coming 10 months.
