Delta variant COVID 19 causing devastating crisis in Ethiopia: Health Ministry

Addis Ababa, September 14, 2021 (FBC) – Deputy Health Minister Dr. Dereje Duguma underscored that the delta variant Coronavirus is currently causing a devastating crisis in Ethiopia.

Dr. Dereje exclusively told FBC that number of new confirmed cases, intensive care patients and death tolls from the delta variant are alarmingly increasing putting socio-economic situation at stake.

Lack of adherence to precautions set to curb spread of the virus among the community and poor performance of preventive and control activities have contributed to an alarming increase of transmission of the pandemic .

Prevalence of unsafe social gatherings are also negatively contributing to the intensification of the pandemic, he noted.

He called on the public to strictly observe the preventive and control measures to curtail further spread of the pandemic.

According to Ministry of Health, 38 people died from the virus on Monday alone as number of patients in intensive care units reached more than 750.
