Ethiopia, China renew commitment in implementation of HOAI

Addis Ababa, March 29, 2023(FBC) –Tefera Derbew, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the People’s Republic of China held a discussion with Xue Bing, Special Envoy of the People’s Republic of China to the Horn of Africa.

In their discussion they raised the ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and the progress in relation to the Horn of Africa Initiative (HOAI), the embassy has stated, according to Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing.

It added that both sides underlined the need to work closely in implementation of Action plan of (HOAI).

It is to be recall that Ethiopia has taken over the rotating Chairmanship of the Horn of Africa Initiative (HOAI) at the handover ceremony from Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary and National Treasury of Kenya in a virtual ceremony at the Ethiopian Embassy in Kenya.

Ahmed Shide, Finance Minister of Ethiopia, assumes chairmanship of the Horn of Africa Initiative (HOAI) from Kenya.

The HoA Initiative was launched towards the end of 2019 by Finance Ministers in Horn of Africa Countries through the support of the African Development Bank, the World Bank, and the European Union to deepen regional integration and deliver better development outcomes in areas of building resilience, infrastructure, trade, and human capital.
