Ethiopia officially joins BRICS coming Monday
Addis Ababa, December 30, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s bid to join BRICS was welcomed by the leadership of the group during its 15th Summit held in Johannesburg on 24 August 2023. According to ENA, Ethiopia will be officially joining the BRICS the coming Monday.
In addition to Ethiopia, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran will officially join the BRICS the coming Monday thereby increasing the number of members of the group to ten, it was stated.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) commended Ethiopia’s accession to the group saying: “An important moment for Ethiopia, the BRICS leaders accepted our entry into the group today. Ethiopia stands ready to cooperate with all for an inclusive and prosperous world order,”
Reports indicate that more than 40 countries had shown interest in joining BRICS, including 22 countries which had formally requested to join.
