Ethiopia shares its experience in cyber security at Africa-Russia IT forum

Addis Ababa, April 13, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia shared its experience in cyber security at the Africa-Russia Information Technology Forum being held in Moscow, Russia.

Director General of the Ethiopian Information Network Security Administration (INSA), Solomon Soka, stated in the forum that Ethiopia, apart from taking advantage of the good opportunities in the cyberspace, is using its own potentials to reduce digital sovereignty violations and cyber-attacks that may arise in connection with digital usage.

Solomon emphasized that countries should work on protecting cyber sovereignty, noting that their dependence on cyber technology should be properly checked and adjusted.

Developing countries dependence on technology from other countries, especially developed countries, results in digital sovereignty risks, the INSA Director General pointed out.

Solomon stressed that countries need to equip themselves with their own state-of-the-art technology products in order to reduce the threat to their cyber sovereignty.

He pointed out that countries that are lagging behind in the field of cyber technology, such as Africans, have a high risk of digital sovereignty.

On the other hand, the DG further emphasized that due to the boundless nature of the cyberspace, countries should work on formulating common standards, policies and cooperation frameworks to use the cyberspace safely.
