Ethiopia sign agreement with UNESCO to offer peace education in universities

Addis Ababa, August 18, 2021 (FBC) – Science and Higher Education Ministry of Ethiopia and the United Nations Education Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have signed an agreement to facilitate peace education in universities.

It is stated on the occasion that the agreement is mainly focused at fostering conflict resolution mechanisms, preventing conflicts and enhancing quality of education in higher education institutions.

The Education will be started in 6 selected universities of Ethiopia as a trial run, it is indicated. Peace education needed in higher education institutes of Ethiopia that accommodates students from varied social and cultural backgrounds, the Science and Higher Education State Minister, Mulu Nega (PhD) said on the occasion.

The Science and Higher Education Minister, Samuel Urkato (PhD), President of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, Professor Tsige Gebremariam, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, Ito Takako, among other senior officials and presidents of various universities have attended the signing ceremony.

The Science and Higher Education State Minister, Mulu Nega (PhD) and UNESCO’s Ethiopia Country Director Yumiko Yokozeki have signed the agreement.
