Ethiopian Diaspora Service shares experience to Malawi gov’t delegation on diaspora engagement activities

Addis Ababa, September 16, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Diaspora Service (EDS) welcomed and shared experience on diaspora participation activities to the delegation of the government of Malawi.

Members representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Malawi participated in the forum facilitated by the Embassy of Malawi in Ethiopia.

At the event, a document about the institutional structures and legal frameworks that Ethiopia has adopted to promote diaspora participation in the last four years has been presented and discussed.

Mohammed Endris (PhD), Executive Director of EDS, welcomed and thanked the members of the delegation to learn from Ethiopia’s diaspora services rich experience and bring their own experiences.

He pointed out that the mutual learning platforms held by Africans are of great value, and said that this relationship between both institutions should be strengthened by creating joint alliances in the countries where the diasporas of the two countries live.

He reminded that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s initiative enabled Ethiopia to create favorable conditions which bring the diaspora closer to the country.

The Malawi higher delegation members, on their part, thanked EDS for the welcome and the experience provided to them, and expressed that they were able to gain valuable experience from the activities that Ethiopia has carried out in the last four years to increase the involvement of the diaspora.

The delegation stated that it will submit a proposal, based on the experience gained, to its governmental to establish a similar diaspora institution in their country.
