Ethiopian Federal Police briefs experts of Committee Against Torture on security sector reforms

Addis Ababa, May 8, 2023 (FBC) – An Ethiopian delegation comprising officials of Office of Prime Minister, Federal Police, Ministry of Justice and Refugees and Returnees Service has attended the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment 76th Session.

The delegation gave a detailed explanation and presentation on the human rights management in Ethiopia and the report presented by the Human Rights Commission.

Deputy Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Federal Police, Zelalem Mengiste briefed experts of the Committee Against Torture on the reform activities being carried out in the security sector, especially in the areas of human rights management and use of technology in the sector.

The Deputy Commissioner asserted that the Ethiopian Federal Police has no tolerance for the suffering and inhumane acts on suspects.

He said that he Police is working to eliminate security threats and investigating crimes against the community.

The Federal Police is working closely with regional and international organizations to strengthen cooperation on joint operations, information sharing and joint investigations, he added.
