Ethiopians celebrating Eid al-Fitr with various religious events across the nation

Addis Ababa, May 13, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopians are celebrating the 1442nd Eid al-Fitr with various religious events across the country.

Hundred thousands of Muslims in Addis Ababa have flocked to Addis Ababa Stadium to attend the Eid Salat Prayer.

Clerics of the religion including President of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Grand Mufti Haji Omar Idris, President Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs Council, Sheik Sulatan Aman and high ranking governemnt officials including Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie have attended the Eid ceremony took place at Addis Ababa.

Addressing the congregation at the Addis Ababa Stadium, Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs Council President Sheik Sultan Aman expressed delight over the colorful celebration of the holiday calling the faithful to help the needy and support one another while observing Edi al-Fitr.

Grand Mufti Haji Omar Idris, President of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, to his part said the joyful celebration of the Eid al-Fitr holiday marks the end of the Holy Ramadan month which Muslims spent through prayers and good deeds.

Unity, harmony and love has been manifested through the celebration of the Eid festival, the Grand Mufti said calling the faithful to help the poor and observe compassionate deeds during the Holiday.

The Grand Mufti further called up on the Muslim Community to maintain unity and preserve patriotism and protect the country from any challenge that might jeopardize its well-being.

Preserving peace and unity is  the only way to step up national development projects including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and realize  better Ethiopia, the Grand Mufti stressed.

Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City, Adanech Abiebie, to her part, wishing all the Muslim happy Eid al-Fitr urged the faithful to maintain love and togetherness and observe precasuions set to curtail spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Furtehrmore, Ethiopian Muslims across the country have observed the Eid Salat Payer event in mosques and several public open spaces in attendance of religious leaders and hundred thousands of faithful.

Returning back to home from the Eid Salat, Ethiopians celebrate Eid al-Adha by having special dishes and drinks, singing Nashida, visiting relatives and making charities to needy segment of the community.
