Farewell ceremony for late Abebech Gobena takes place at Meskel Square

Addis Ababa, July 6, 2021 (FBC) –A farewell ceremony for Abebech Gobena, a humanitarian icon, is being held at the Meskel Square in Addis Ababa.

The late Abebech died last Sunday after receiving COVID-19 treatment in a hospital.

As the most revered philanthropist and the Founder of Abebech Gobena children’s care and development Association, Abebech Gobena has raised and helped thousands of orphaned children across Ethiopia.

Abebech received an honorary doctorate degree from Jimma University for her outstanding humanitarian engagement in the last forty years.

Many call Abebech Gobena as the African Mother Teresa.
