First-ever gov’t refugee high school opened in Benishalgul Gumuz region

Addis Ababa, March 29, 2023 (FBC) – Tsore Arumera secondary school became the 1st refugee school in Ethiopia to be transferred under the authority of the Benishangul Gumuz Regional Educational Bureau.

It is noted that this is a major milestone in the ongoing endeavor to ensure refugees’ inclusion in the national education system.

Built with support from Education Cannot Wait, the school is said to have the capacity to enroll 1,426 students, it is indicated.

By 2025, World Bank-backed 13 refugee secondary schools across Ethiopia will be put under the administration of the Ministry of Education, according to UNHCR Ethiopia country office.
