Gov’t reaffirms commitment in defending interests of Ethiopians abroad

Addis Ababa, March 4, 2023 (FBC) – Ambassador Mesganu Arga, State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, and Fitsum Assefa, Planning and Development Minister visited the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church under construction in Doha, Qatar.

According to MFA Ethiopia, the construction of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) in Doha is now being carried out on the 1,846m2 of land that was provided by the Government of Qatar.

It was stated that the religious leaders of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Doha expressed heartfelt gratitude for the assistance provided by the Ethiopian Embassy in Doha in support of efforts made to realize the long-held vision of followers to establish a church in Qatar.

They particularly appreciated State Minister Mesganu Arga who demonstrated an exemplary role and able leadership in availing the EOTC community in Doha a plot of land from the Government of Qatar during his capacity as Ethiopia’s former Envoy to Doha few years ago.

During their visit, the Ethiopian officials signed the Church’s Guest Book of Honour.

Addressing the congregation, the officials reaffirmed the continued support of the Ethiopian Government in safeguarding the interests of Ethiopian citizens abroad, including through the provision of the necessary support to ensure access to places of worship, as per MFA Ethiopia’s post on Twitter.
