GPE approves a 1-year financial support to school feeding program for 578 schools in 6 regions

Addis Ababa, November 11, 2022 (FBC) – Global Partnership for Education (GPE) has announced a 1-year financial assistance project to support the home-grown school feeding program in Ethiopia.

Ministry of Education, GPE and other stakeholders held on Friday achievement review, closeout, and the launching of a new financial backing project of the home-grown school feeding program in Ethiopia.

GPE, the Ethiopian Ministry of Education (MoE), Save the Children and regional partner institutions have been implementing the nationwide inclusive school feeding program project.

During the project closeout and launching event, it was indicated that the home-grown inclusive school feeding program has been successful and satisfactory. The previous project was implemented from December 1, 2020 to September 30, 2022.

Since its implementation, the project supported 223,301 children with school meals throughout 648 schools in the country.

In addition, it has been stated that other related supplies such as educational materials, personal hygiene materials for female students and other supports were provided to the schools included in the project.

Following the successful achievement of the previous inclusive and home-grown school feeding program, GPE has approved additional financial support to sustain school feeding services and other related supplies in 578 primary schools selected in six regions.

It is stated that the new project is effective from 1 November 2022 to 31 December 2023.
