Heavy rain induced flash flood causes loss of life, property in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 17, 2021 (FBC) – The torrential downpour in Tuesday afternoon has inflicted a flash flooding that caused loss of lives and properties in several neighbourhoods of the capital Addis Ababa.

The Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie has addressed the heavy flooding that killed people, damaged properties and forced a number of residents to vacate their homes.

The flooding that hit Asko, Adey Abeba, German Square and Golf Club areas also swamped homes and disrupted transportation service as it clogged drainage systems and filled streets with water.

The city administration said people injured have been taken to hospitals, and are receiving emergency medical services.

Workers of the Addis Ababa Fire and Emergency Prevention and Rescue Agency are now engaged on rescuing victims and undertaking preventive measures, it is stated.
