IGAD chief expresses concern amid resurgence of conflict in Sudan’s Gezira State, El Fasher
Addis Ababa, December 17, 2023 (FBC) – Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), expressed his concern over the resurgence of conflict in Sudan’s Gezira State and El Fasher.
In a message published on his X page, the IGAD chief said, “Extremely concerned by the resurgence of conflict Gezira State & El Fasher in Sudan.”
Workneh underlined that violence endangers lives and hinders search for a lasting peace.
He also urged both the conflicting parties, Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to heed the call of the 41st Extraordinary IGAD Assembly for cessation of hostilities and resolution of the conflict through dialogue.
