Ministry of Revenue announces seizure of contraband items worth 44mln Birr

Addis Ababa, May 24, 2021 (FBC) – Ministry of Revenue has today stated that it has seized contraband goods worth 737,757 Birr at various checkpoints and border posts.

The illicit goods have been seized in close follow up activities conducted within 5 days from May 15-20, 2021.

Contraband items that amount to 43,131,467 Birr have been sized while being smuggled into the country while the remaining goods were illegally going out of the country, according to the Ministry.

The contraband items include garments, tobaccos, packed foods, and cosmetics, the ministry indicates.

Ministry added that 32 trucks that were transporting the contraband goods have been also made under control, and investigations are underway to root out all those involved.
