NEBE cancels registration of 26 political parties

Addis Ababa, December 23, 2020 (FBC) –The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has announced the cancellation of the registration of a total of 26 political parties.

In a statement issued yesterday, the board said the decision was taken in accordance with NEBE’s Proclamation Number 1162/2011 and political parties’ regulation number 3, which obliges political parties to meet the necessary requirements.

According to the statement, the aforementioned 26 political parties had failed to meet the conditions and present satisfactory documents to the electoral board.

The board added that examination of documents of 12 political parties is still underway. The board had completed investigation of documents of 40 political parties.
